I’m a former professor turned technical writer and I’m obsessed with figuring out how to do things efficiently. I also love writing. For me, writing a manuscript or grant proposal is more exciting than doing the research. After helping students and colleagues write research papers (and the hypothesis formation, data analysis, and learning about statistical methods that goes into that), I realized we need a cheatsheet for how to write a paper. I wrote one--Dr. Danger’s Guide to Scientific Writing—and then I wrote one for grant proposals--Dr. Danger’s Guide to Grant Writing. These are intended to be useful workbooks that students (and practicing scientists) can use to craft their manuscripts and grant proposals. Please use, enjoy, and spread the word! Happy writing!
I am also an ecologist interested in plants, climate change and conservation.
My postdoctoral research focused the range expansion of mangroves, which are tropical trees that are currently moving into temperate salt marshes. My work with Dr. Ilka Feller examines this range expansion in Florida, but it is also happening in other places around the world, including Texas and Australia.
I completed my Ph.D at the University of California, Berkeley in 2013 in Dr. Wayne Sousa's lab. During that time, I studied a mangrove species with a very limited geographic range called Pelliciera rhizophorae.
